On day 3 of our trip we left the northern city of Chiang Mai for the mountains. We were dropped off at the base of a river and preceded to crisscross the river multiple times on thin tree bridges. For the next 6 1/2 lugging my clothing and art supplies on my back we climbed a steep mountain that would make Lindsey Vaugh nervous. I know I dropped at least 15 pounds as I had to pull up one more notches on my belt. Our effort was rewarded by the plush accommodations that greeted us, at the Lahu village of Kup Kap, imagine, mosquito netting, ceramic commodes, and a cold shower. Fortunately, our guide treated us to a romantic candle lit (no electricy) dinner of traditional Thai food under the stars.
